Microsoft Corporation has released an application for the Apple iPhone platform. The application is a photo viewing software called Seadragon, which is its first-ever iPhone application in the App Store.

SeaDragon Mobile is pretty much a demo of Microsoft Live Labs photo display platform. Users can use the application to zoom in on photos with incredible resolution. The application achieves this by storing different resolutions, and shows only the portions needed at any given time. It comes with several images attached to the application for testing purposes. Some of the snapshots that come as part of the application package are from the Library of Congress.
It works very similarly, oddly enough to Google Earth on the iPhone but the zoom capabilities seem to be almost infinite. Pinching and pulling zooms in and out and the default pictures available are pretty cool to explore, especially the pictures of Mars. The application is free, so if you have an iPhone you might as well download it give it a whirl and see what you think. It installed quickly and launched quickly on our first generation iPhone.
Seadragon utilizes iPhone’s multi-touch capabilities to zoom in and out of the images. The application also loads images and focuses quite fast. For multiple image view mode, there is a slideshow view. Additional images can be added through Flickr and Deep Zoom Content RSS feeds. Currently the application is only available for the iPod Touch and the iPhone.
