In any competition two is better than one and it seems Microsoft is all set to use the same strategy by sticking to Windows 6.5 even after it launches the Windows Mobile 7 somewhere at the end of 2010. According to the Taiwanese trade newspaper Digitimes, Microsoft will be adopting the dual strategy by promoting both the Windows Mobile OS versions to compete in different niches.

Microsoft will supposedly compete with the Android devices with the Windows Mobile 6.5 which is expected to be available on October 1, 2009 while it will be using Windows Mobile 7 to take the iPhone based platforms head-on.

It is further being reported that Microsoft will decrease the price of Windows Mobile 6.5 editions to make it still relevant and attractive to the consumers looking for relatively inexpensive Mobile devices with smartphone capabilities.

It has to be noted that the Mobile phone space is changing rapidly in last few years and Microsoft might miss out on some action by keeping the launch dates way too far. It is quite evident that both Android and iPhone would have progressed much farther with thousands of compatible apps being made for the said smartphone platforms. More and more mobile manufacturers which were earlier using WinMo editions are switching to Android. It will be interesting to see how Microsoft remains relevant in the mobile space. Microsoft has always been a ruthless competition but will it be a good competitor here. Time will tell.
