Mobile video streaming service Qik is now beta

Qik, the mobile video streaming service has now entered public beta which means users won’t have to wait for approval now. Anyone with a supported handset can now join Qik considering that he has a data plan on his phone. Qik only supports handful of mobile phones (mainly S60 phones) and the company has claimed that the numbers of supported handsets will increase in coming days. Since its in Public Beta now so users can also invite their friends to join.

Certain new features have also been incorporated like users can create communities and events. Users can create videos on their cellphones and stream directly to their favorite sites like Facebook, Myspace and Orkut. The Qik player has also been improved which has now reduced latency. Qik also supports certain integrations like CoverItLive which is a live blogging service and iPoki which is a location based service which can show the location of other Qikkers.
