Nokia is certainly the market leader and perhaps the only brand which is used both by the chauffeur and the owner of a Mercedes car (this is true in India at least). Nokia mobile phones have left the footprint in every cell phone category except the smart executive class which has been busy with HTC or Blackberry. Nokia has tried to woo Blackberry users with its own range of QWERTY smartphones but nothing has been able to do the trick for Nokia as of yet. Nokia E71 might change this equation and turn out to be the black horse. It seems like Nokia has now finally gotten serious with QWERTY smart phones and they have done some real work behind the scenes which clearly shows in E71.

Nokia E71 has an impressive form factor and Nokia boasts that it is the thinnest smart phone in the market right now. It is mere 10 mm thick and sports glossy look unlike its predecessors likeE61i and E62. Nokia E71 is almost as wide as an iPhone and it also means that Nokia has started to value sleek and thin. It is running on S60 platform (3rd edition). It has 110 MB of inbuilt memory and a microSD slot. It has a camera of 3.2 megapixel which could be one reason to prefer this phone over Blackberry models. The niche is pretty obvious for this mobile phone and Nokia has incorporated office, email and PIM software with separate mailboxes and home screens. There is a S60 web browser which has an inbuilt RSS feeder and it makes submitting images on online photo services like Flickr and Nokia’s own Ovi easy.

Nokia E71 qualifies all the expectations (at least mine) which you can probably have with your smartphone. It is definitely not as sexy as an iPhone but it has enough punch in it to take on other latest QWERTY cell phones.
