Samsung unveiled one of the first touchscreen phones consciously designed to be eco-friendly. Samsung Blue Earth might be mistaken by the people as Motorola Pebl as both have remarkable similarity in looks. What makes the Samsung Blue Earth different is that it is made from recycled plastic from water bottles and has a built-in solar charger on its back panel.

Samsung also says the handset and its wall charger don’t include brominated flame retardants, beryllium and phthalates that could affect the users.
The Blue Earth, which was designed to resemble a pebble, has a touch screen and custom-made user interface for input. It can go into a low-power “Eco-mode” which sets up screen brightness, backlight duration and Bluetooth to work at their most efficient. It has a built in pedometer which will let users know how they are reducing CO2 emissions by walking rather than driving. The phone can also be set up in an Eco mode, Its charger has a 5-star energy efficiency rating and draw very little power.
Although there is no pricing and other specs information, Samsung’s Blue Earth will be shown off at Mobile World Congress next week and is expected to ship to certain markets in the second half of 2009.
