Green is the new red and Smasung is definitely up for it with its launch of a green mobile phone which is made from bioplastics. Samsung unveiled E200 Eco at the OR@S (Olympic Rendezvous @ Samsung) in Beijing. E200 Eco has its case made of chemicals extracted from the corn. Biosplastics are just like the ordinary plastic we use everyday but they are derived from renewable sources instead of petroleum.

E200 Eco is a mid segment phone with very basic features by today’s standard. It has a 1.3 megapixel camera and a MP3 player with video messaging capability. A green phone actually makes sense as it will help in reducing the carbon emissions as well as fuel consumption. Samsung has recently become more green conscious and they have given the particular task to Chiel Industries which is part of Samsung group.
Samsung also launched two other eco-friendly phones, W510 and the F268 at the Olympic Rendezvous 2008. No harmful materials like Lead, Mercury and Cadmium has been used in the production of W510 while F268 is the world’s first mobile phone free from PVC/BFR (some awful chemicals).
Some other mobile companies are also trying to woo the green conscious consumers. The three mobile phones might not be feature rich but they definitely let you do your earth karma.
