Sony Ericsson has just unveiled its first 12 Megapixel camera phone at MWC 2009, codenamed Sony Ericsson Idou its second full touchscreen phone. And that number 12 is not written mistake, they have actually announced such a monster. This is the first ever mobile phone with 12 megapixels digital camera.

The handset will be one of the firm’s first to be based on pure Symbian instead of UIQ and will use a custom touch interface with an emphasis on media playback. Appropriately, it will also have a 3.5-inch, 16:9 ratio display and appears to rely solely on the screen for keyboard input.

The Sony Ericsson has announced another one phone which is called W995, its codenamed Hikaru is their latest addition to their Walkman phone family and comes with 2.6-inch scratch-resistant display, 8-megapixel autofocus camera with LED flash, dual-band HSDPA/tri-band HSDPA for North American version, quad-band GSM, WiFi, Bluetooth with A2DP support, A-GPS, accelerometer, 3.5mm headset jack, YouTube play and will come bundled with an 8GB M2 card.
Overall, the devices are compelling, certainly with the combination of a high megapixel camera and media playback. With the Idou, however, we’ll need to check out the responsiveness of the touchscreen first-hand and really put the 12MP camera to use. If it has a solid image sensor and responds as fast as it looks like it might, we will be more impressed. The W995 Walkman phone looks like more of the same, but likewise, we will hold our judgments until we check out the camera and its extra features.
The Sony Ericsson w995 and Idou will be available in the second half of this year in three colored variants black, red and Silver though pricing is yet to be known.
