Let me start with this thing that Sony Ericsson had started a contest sometime back where it shared the SDK with developers to make panels for Sony Ericsson Xperia handsets. A contest is being run by Sony Ericsson where developers can send in their applications in categories like Being Productive and Themes & Graphics while Xperia panels is just one category. You can read more about this ongoing contest on the Sony Ericsson Contest Awards site.

Now the news is that Xperia will now have panels for Facebook and Microsoft Windows Live. The Facebook panel includes an entirely new visual representation of friends’ statuses capitalizing on the enhanced capabilities of Xperia. Similarly the Microsoft Live panel will provide a one point entry to all the Microsoft web services.
The last date to submit Xperia panels has been extended to January 30, 2009 so we can expect some more panles in coming weeks. I would love to see a Twitter panel though.
