Three days ago, someone asked me to define “what is a GEEK, and how can one discover if they have in it them or no?”, I responded to him by saying that it is not about discovering or infusing geekiness, it is about having that spirit that doesn’t let you settle on something regular or mediocre. Reaching to and trying out different things comes out natural to geeks.
Some people mistakenly identify geek as to be the one wearing spectacles and nerdy T-shirts and geeky gadget stuff they have on them, but it’s not primarily external it is really in deep within you, your heart, mind and soul.

I think I was born curious, the only subject I loved in school was science and I always had the enthusiasm to question “why stuff happens”, I believed that I am in the world for a significant cause.
I loved it when mom took me to her office when she could not have anyone to baby sit me, she worked with punching cards then moved on to magnetic tapes and then she really worked on the first Personal Computer, and I fancied it to be the best device that could do so much. I just loved to be there, little sense it made to me, but it was great and I knew this is what I want to do when I grow up.
The only TV channel I watched was Discovery, Nat Geo and Technology related programs while my school mates gossiped about MTV and the hottest new star. I always had difficulty in meeting people with whom I could have an intelligent conversation with, no I didn’t think I was out the world or something, I could mingle with my peers but I always craved for something that was intriguing to my mind.
I always had a thing for gadgets, I never missed trade fairs in the town, where one could see new world technology, innovations on display.Thankfully my dad took me to places like these and to more, like book fairs, yea those were the days internet didn’t existed and books had so much knowledge to offer. I remember how hooked up I was to the electronic magazines and latest reviews etc. I have always dreamed to go to Akihabara, one of the largest Electronic shopping Districts in Tokyo, Japan, you could get anything and everything here, shop for anything electronic, computer etc. and one day I will go there before I die!

Website statistics is perhaps the most exciting part about owning a website. Just having an online presence simply doesn’t do wonders if you don’t know the way to reach your target readers/customers. A new blogging platform is making rounds in the geek circle which claims to make blogging easier, as if it was difficult earlier. Posterous allows you to setup and post entries in your blog without having to sign up. You can directly send the text of your post with a variety of files by attaching it with your message (.doc, .pdf, .ppt, .jpg, .gif, .png and .mp3) to post@posterous.com from your gmail account or yahoo account or any other mail program.
Posterous will reply in few seconds with a url where your post is located. You can however create or change your username. You certainly have the freedom to post or manage blog without signing in but you can also register on the website if you may desire. You can not change the theme or templates on your Posterous blog while you can only embed the videos of youtube on your blog post as of yet. The company claims that they are working to make other websites supported on Posterous.
I am faily impressed with the idea behind the website which is to make blogging less techie so that more and more users can participate in expressing themselves through blogs.

I was at BarCampDelhi3, as expected it was a great event. Organized by Impetus Technologies it was very well arranged. There were 3 simultaneous sessions ongoing and you could go into any you feel like attending.
I was delighted to meet many people, whom I met last year and also I got to meet new people with whom I share common interests.
There were so many intriguing sessions, to mention few great ones, I was very much excited to see the presentation by Himanshu Baweja, on the facebook application “ithink” he and his team at Minekey have developed. I would like to congratulate on its success to them.

Thoughts.com, a new blogging service. If you have got photos, videos or podcasts that want to share with your friends, family and the world you can upload them here besides the conventional blogging feature.
You can get ratings and comments from anyone who visits your blogs, and, you can invite people.
I liked the way they have organized the navigation for user account, its easy to make the blog entries although they do not have html editor like most such platforms have. Another usual yet useful feature is the tag cloud.
They have captcha protection to avoid spam and bot entries. They even have abuse report in form of “flag this post as inappropriate”, many such features make it a competitive blogging product.
You can also chat on the forums and they also have provision for contacting other members on instant message. (more…)
