Youtube is a great place on the web to hang out and just chill. You can watch pretty much any video on Youtube and if you can’t find the video related to your search then rest assure that you won’t find it anywhere else on web either. Unlike some other similar video sites, youtube doesn’t allow you to download videos which has led to the creation of some tools to do precisely that, download youtube videos.

Downloadyoutubevideos is one of the better option for those looking at downloading youtube videos to their desktop because it is very easy to use. Simply type in the URL of the video link that you would like to download and the clip is downloaded to your hard disk. No need to sign back in to youtube and wait a few minute for an entire clip to load. After downloading you can easily play with media player. I recommend VLC player to view files as it can play video of every type you can imagine.

Vidgrab is a another simple site which allows to download youtube video directly to their desktop without installing any software or download conversion. Just copy and paste the link and click the download option. Besides the download function, the site also shows a top list of most viewed videos. Warning: There are adult ads on this website so you wont like to use it before someone else.

Kcoolonline is a web based converter which supports many video sharing websites, including youtube. To download a video , you just copy the URL from the youtube site and paste its URL into the box and press Get Vid.

Vidtaker is a simple site that lets you download any video from a number of video sharing website. Just copy the address of the video and it will do the rest. While there is no browser addon to download videos directly from youtube .

You can also try a Greasemonkey script called Download Video from Youtube which puts a small link besides the Youtube clip which you can click to download.

For some reason or another we do bump into some situation online when changing IP address seems the only solution. You might have experienced similar situations as well. There are different reasons to change ip address to different people. Some tend to do this to hide their internet activity while some unfortunate mortals do theis when their ip is banned for reasons the person would know better.

Anyway, here are some ways to change your IP address which you might give a try.

1.  If you are using Windows xp then you can do the following steps in order to get a new ip:
Follow the sequence Start> Run> Type “cmd” and press enter without quotes.
You will see a window where in you will have to write “ipconfig/release” with out the quotes.
This step will terminate your internet connection.
Now write “ipconfig/renew” in the same window. This step will renew your IP address.

2. The other method which is pretty similar to the first one is:

Get the command prompt by clicking on Start > Run and then type command and click ok

Then type ipconfig /release” without quotes into the command window.

Shut down windows

Make sure the computer is turned off

Switch off the modem

Leave everything off for 8 hours or more

Switch the modem back on

Switch the computer back on

Check your IP address

This should change your ip address.

3. The third step which you can use in order to change IP address is :

Log into the router’s admin console.

Release the IP address. (Method varies by router manufacturer)

Turn off router, ethernet hubs/switches, and the cable/DSL modem

Leave off overnight

Turn everything back on

The only thing said to be more delicate than a girl’s heart is a LCD screen and it needs much more care than a CRT. LCD panels hold polarizing crystals between two glass sheets which produce the quality pictures. The images produced by a LCD are many times better than a CRT but even minor damage can ruin it completely. Unfortunately, the LCD panel becomes of no use if the glass panel breaks down and liquid crystals held inside get dispersed.

The only thing you can do in that case is throw it in trash. However if the degree of damage is just limited to a scratch then you can definitely do something to mend it.

There are two ways to remove scratches on your LCD screen:

1. First of all apply diluted isopropyl alcohol (50/50 with water) with a clean cotton cloth on the surface of the screen. This should make the surface clear of any dirt and then you can put Vaseline in the trough of scratch. Gently wipe the Vaseline left off the scratch. This should fill the scratch with Vaseline and you can again enjoy gaming or watching videos on your screen.

2. You can also do this trick to get you rid of the scratch if the scratch is particularly harsh. Start with cleaning the surface with diluted isopropyl alcohol (50/50 with water) as mentioned in previous way. Apply a bit of auto rubbing compound the scratched surface and polish the area. After that, use a piece of paper and make a very small hole (5mm) in its centre to spray clear lacquer on the surface. Leave the surface to dry after that.

These techniques should help and you must read the instruction manual of the LCD manufacturer before applying any cleaning agent on the screen.

While you’re browsing pictures on Flickr, there appears an ‘All Sizes’ option above photos. Clicking on the ‘All Sizes’ option takes you to a page that has links to the photo in various sizes, including its biggest version. But not all pictures have that, as some photos have restricted permissions and have the ‘All Sizes’ option missing or disabled and it’s not possible to directly retrieve the original version of the photo.

However, Get Flickr is a tool from TechRoam that helps you retrieve the original size of  a Flickr image easily even if the ‘All Sizes’ option is not given.

The page provides a text box where you have to copy and paste the photo ID of a particular Flickr photo.

Entering the ID shows the URL of the image’s biggest version. You can then download it to your local computer. It works on most pictures, but it is not a total success. We recommend you to Get Flickr – View Full Size of Flickr Photos, for entertainment  purpose only, we do not recommend to violate user’s right to not to share his picture on web in true size.

Hello guys, this is my first contribution on realgeek.com, recently I converted FAT to NTFS, and this is how I did it. I thought it would be good to share with you all. I would recommended you to backup your important files to an external hard drive or another location.

This process carries high assurance that this would work for you, as it did for me, but it’s always a good precaution. Please know that this process can not be Reversed.

What’s NTFS? NTFS, short for NT File System, is the most secure and robust file system for Windows NT, 2000, and XP. It provides security by supporting access control and ownership privileges, meaning you can set permission for groups or individual users to access certain files.

And if you really need the conversion, make sure to Verify that the file system is really FAT32

You can easily do this by click on My Computer. Single left click on your hard drive icon. In a window to the left, it will give you details on the drive, showing what the file system is, or you can click on hard drive icon and select Properties.

Make sure to note down of all the drive letters that you may require to convert.

Now to open the command console, click on the Start button, then select the “Run” command. This will open a small box with a text field. In this field, type ‘cmd‘ without the quotes and press enter.

How to Convert Fat to NTFS?

Visit Start > Run > type
cmd
and then click OK.

At command prompt type:

CONVERT [driveletter]: /FS:NTFS

eg: If you wanna convert C: Drive to NTFS then Type

convert c: /fs:ntfs

Make sure you type in the command exactly as it’s shown, replace ‘C:’ with the drive letter you need to convert. You will get prompt that the drive needs to be dismounted in order to the conversion and will be forced to choose Y or N.
When this prompt appears, type Y and hit enter.

In case your operating system is on the drive you want to convert, the program will ask whether you would like to schedule the conversion for when the system is restarting. If that is applicable to you then go for Yes.

Once the conversion process is complete you can quit command prompt by typing exit and pressing enter.

I was so fond of google desktop, but then it made my system real slow, in day to day work I often have to look up files on my computer, but then it takes a lot of time. And it is highly likely that my computer organization is as messed up as my room. I have also tried the Window Vista’s Search 4.0 Preview.

Bringing things in order is not easy and seriously not many of us even want things in order. In such a situation the best way to find things (that we stored months back and now wasting time on retrieving it) is to use this Quick File Search utility called Locate 32. And believe this is lite!

It doesn’t consume too much of system resources and runs pretty fast. The simple tool indexes all the files on your computer and supports all the versions of Windows. The shell integration allows Locate32 to work in console and provide command-line search functionality that other desktop search applications lack.

It is an open source search utility so the developers can also derive synergy from it by creating applications based on it. It is not as comprehensive as Google Desktop Search but it’s definitely a safer option because it’s completely isolated from data on your computer.

Locate32 has some shortcomings too just as the other desktop search utilities. The application is always running in the background and constantly uses system resources, one major problems with the always-active desktop search tools.

Locate32 cannot search the contents of files or e-mails, so you can’t use the tool to search for a phrase inside of a message, like you can on Google Desktop or Windows Search.

However, Locate32 is completely isolated to your system, you don’t have to worry about any data, non-personally identifiable or otherwise, being evaluated by some third party.

Locate32 is completely free, and supports just about every version of Windows, including Windows 98, ME, NT, 2000, XP, and Vista.

CD’s are definitely on the verge of becoming obsolete but still some of us use them to store data or more specifically movies and songs. DVD’s are definitely a better option to store data as they save more and are less prone to scratches. Still we have all been to situation where we somehow lose data because of some damage on CD/DVD. In such a situation you can either use a toothpaste to recover the data on your CD if they are just scratches or you can also use few softwares if the degree of damage is high.

Little toothpaste can be applied on the surface of the optical media with a clean cloth to help you retrieve data on your optical media. And if that doesn’t work then you can use CD Recovery Toolbox which can recover files from damaged or corrupted CD/DVD/HD-DVD/Blu-Ray disks. It is a freeware and it can get data from your CD back which was considered as dead. You can even use a trialware called CD Check which can help you retrieve data.

There are times when you have something on your desktop and you want to share it with others. You have a tutorial to share or a certain part of desktop to capture or record a video so that you can share it with others. There are few softwares which help you to do it but nothing could be better than Jing Project.

It projects everything on your screen to anything on your desktop in a manner than you can share it with others. It captures or records precisely the area that you define without bothering at all in your work. You can continue to tell what are the new features in Firefox and how do you add hair to a bald guy in Photoshop leaving all the technicalities to Jing.

Jing is completely free and it supports both Windows and Mac OS X. This software is a must in the arsenal of any geek who is into too much tutorial stuff. You can further save the images or upload it on flickr while videos are saved in .swf file type and can be uploaded on Screencast and then embed on your blogs or websites.

Wait, the company claims that it is just a project right now and not a product so it’s free for now and could become a premium software later. So if you are reading this then you must rush and download the application because this one deserves a try by every user.

Downloading softwares, using them and then uninstalling them (if they are of no use to me) is something which I am supposed to do to come up with new and more reviews.

If you are even slightly nerdy and geeky then I am sure then you too do it all the time. But there is one problem we all face when we try to uninstall some software and it is the leftovers of that utility in registry and other areas where Windows Xp never search.

You can use a software called Revo Uninstaller to uninstall a software as completely as it can get. Revo searches files in registry and other areas to clean the hard disk from all the junk of the uninstalled software. It is a freeware so you wont mind giving it a try at least.

It can also help you to solve the uninstalling problem that you might be facing while removing certain programs. This utility has everything to make “Windows Add or Remove Programs” as an obsolete applet on control panel. A powerful and useful application to help keep your PC clean.
