Twitter co-founder Biz Stone has been reported to have spoken about the the their plans to finally commercialize on the vast user numbers that they have.

Stone said in an interview with the BBC that Twitter is considering two ways to monetize. The first is “licensing and syndication” for which they have already tying up with Google and Bing.

The second is offering commercial accounts which provide “a specific layer of access”, according to Stone.
“People are very curious about exactly how we make our money and we’re going to be entering into that this year,”.

“Twitter will always be free to everyone whether it’s commercial or personal. But you’ll be able to pay for an additional layer of access to learn more about your Twitter account - to get some feedback, to get some analytics so that you can become a better twitterer.”

Now we all know about that 140 character micro blogging service called Twitter and we have also seen so many of its copy cats. There is no dearth of Twitter based services either and some of them are even fortunate enough to get Venture Capital. Now, there’s is a new kid on the block which is not actually a Twitter clone or anything related to it but it shares DNA of thought and inspiration from Twitter.

Plinky calls itself your web enabler and unlike Twitter it doesn’t ask “What are you doing?” Plinky merely asks you certain prompt (i.e. a question or challenge) which you can answer. The questions are not super easy in a sense that you do have to apply your mind and often recollect something from your past in order to answer.

Plinnky has set the stage for virality by integrating with services like Facebook, Twitter and others and I am trying what Plinky holds for me. Luckily, I have registered the same user name on Plinky as I have on Twitter (@su). I will be trying it out for some time and give a deatiled analysis of this new kid in some time.

Cooliris is a great product company which has been shaping the way we interact with images for some time now. It started off with a Firefox extension which would make browsing images pretty fashionable and it has now also expanded support to Apple iPhone. What would happen if we combine Cooliris with the champion of images of web 2.0 Flicr? CoolFlick is the answer and it is a new website which integrates the trendy Cooliris way of display with the images on Flickr.

You can search for images on Coolflick which will retrieve images from Flickr and displays it in the fashion of Cooliris. I played with CoolFlick for some time on my Firfox web browser but it was being little crude and the system resources usage of Firefox had increased substantially.

Wikipedia addicts will love this new web service called Lexisum which retrieves you the Wikipedia results in a slick AJAX interface. There is nothing extraordinary about this web service but

Youtube has become the second most popular search engine just after Google if we consider the number of queries being done. This will certainly not amuse Yahoo which has just found its new CEO in Carol Bartz. However I would like to tell you guys about this web service called Tubegraph which allows users to dynamically rate videos.

Tubegraph puts a slider along with the embedded Youtube videos and you can rate the video by sliding the slider up or down. By doing this, a graph is created for every video which lets others to decide whether it’s worth viewing or not.

Tubegraph puts an average of the user’s opinions about the video at a particular time and thus it helps in forming an opinion about a particular video. The idea seems pretty nice and Youtube might consider implementing certain feature in Youtube videos. I’d personally love to see comments at a particular frame of a video.

It’s not easy keeping a site uptime always esp. when your site is popular or suddenly gets popular due to Digg or Stumbleupon. Twitter had almost become a joke amongst the netizens fot its notorious downtime.

Now Twitter has obviously learnt its lessons and it rarely gets out of action these days. But if you visit some site which doesn’t have a very good up-time record then you might wanna consider this new website called Ding It’s Up which supposedly sens you messages when a certain website goes down or when it comes back up.

Ding It’s Up can sens you alerts via e-mail, text and even sms (provided it supports your network carrier). It seems like a nice service but there are already players doing the same thing in the market. The fact that it’s free made me interested. I thought you might be interested.
