Uninstalling programs on a Mac is definitely a breeze but it leaves behind configuration files which are not easy to delete so a third party application is a nice idea. You can manually delete the configuration files if you know the file type but many people prefer the uninstallers in Windows which remove data from registry and keep the system clean.

Following are few third party uninstallers you might want to try before dragging that program from Applications folder to Trash.

AppCleaner is free macware which clean all the unwanted files along with the uninstallation of a particular software. It is also as easy as dragging and dropping and it also keeps history of all the files hich have been deleted or uninstalled. AppCleaner also saves your favorite applications from accidental uninstallation.

AppDelete does the same thing as AppCleaner but is more simple in its approach. It knows only one thing and that is uninstalling the leftovers along with the application. AppDelete finds the related files and delete it leaving your system clean.

AppTrap is another freeware which works in the background and keeps your system free from any unrelated file without you having to do anything. It is pretty straightforward in its function and does not boast of unnecessary features but the only worry with this uninstaller is that you never know what files are being deleted since it works in background.

Being a geek has no privilege in a way that you still have to memorize all the passwords and log into your accounts at different sites. We all have dozens of accounts on different websites and it’s not easy to remember them all while it’s not safe to use the same password in all accounts.

A password management utility called 1Password can certainly help because it completely frees you from the headache of remembering passwords. This application stores all the passwords and then auto-fills and auto-submits when you visit a particular site where you already have an account. It can also create a strong password for you when you sign up on some website.

The strength of passwords can not be doubted and here is an example of one password straight from the company’s website:

8AdEc7mbOKDbtj9ck7VG1MpaLzO7IA0un6h3kEyCgl5hZ2hF79iQ3QoGQdWdc6FuKp

8sqm1aLC3S3QiyU4fhcqPuY40QYD3VSLtfCo0VBcztYfiBTRsIuNj85yP5Lj

omJNk0NwAa0qushbmGG5WUUJcg7sN2

Such passwords can only be tracked if the hacker is using some keylogger but 1Password rules out this possibility because no key is being punched here. There would obviously be a problem when you try to surf from other Mac computer but this smart utility can further store copy of passwords on their server as part of their web service so that you are never deprived of networking while you move. You can access its web service from most web browsers. The application can also be installed on hand-held Palm phones.

All of this is good but it’s not a freeware so you’ll have to shell out $ 34.95 for one license. So, if you can not bear the burden of managing your passwords then it’s an investment.

One of the major difference between a man and a computer is that machines have solid memory while ours is not that perfect. So the possibility of losing your passwords is more of a side-effect of being a human rather than anything else.

You can’t do anything about your human existence but help is at hand in case you have lost/forgotten your Mac password. There is an application in Mac OS X called Keychain Access which stores all kinds of passwords such as Wi Fi network, websites, mail, ftp etc.

For example if you have a bookmarked a site in Transmit FTP application with a password stored in the same and you want to retrieve it you can go to Keychain Access search for the name of the server you are interested in.

Now you may select the right key and get info with Apple(Cmd)-I. Now you will need to click the Show password switch which will prompt you for your admin password. Once you typed it in, the password for that specific key will now be visible.

One of the most enchanting new feature on Mac OS X Leopard was how Apple also now enabled to change the visual appearance of your Mac’s main application launcher, the Dock. It is exciting for all Leopard users, as they have more control on the way Dock is now controlled.

It is fun and useful as it lets you customize, including tweaking Dock images and controlling what the Dock looks like. Numerous different apps have sprung up to make Dock switching easier, One of the useful and popular one is called Dock Library.

Dock Library is a free download from Dative Studios. According to them the Dock Library is an application that takes the headache out of managing styles for your Leopard dock. Once you have Dock Library downloaded and installed, it’s very very easy to switch between different Dock themes and to manage them.

Among the 2008 Apple Design Award winners, the best student project winner chosen was Squirrel, a new finance management application. However, there are many other financial applications for Mac OS X, Squirrel has a great design which helps make the application very user friendly.

Squirrel has an intuitive design and displays maximized usability features, the application window can display your transactions for a chosen account. When you insert a new transaction a bar slides up from the bottom so you can easily edit your transaction.

It also enables tags so you can easily organize them. On the top half of the window you can view a graph of your transactions. If you hover your mouse over any part of the graph you can see the date and the amount in your account at that time.

You can also select to view only incoming or outgoing transactions with the buttons at the top. If you set a URL for your bank you can also view the website by click the Netbanking icon in the top right. You can add different accounts and edit your tags and categories in the preferences section.

If you purchase Squirrel now, or before it releases version 1.0 you can get it for $11 with free updates until version 2.0. Once Squirrel does reach version 1 it will be available for $38. You can download a trial and purchase Squirrel at the application’s website.
