Foobar 2000 might not be made for Linux but it is the most customizable music player in the market right now. You can customize it from head to toe as per your needs but one of the most disappointing feature of Foobar is that it doesn’t come with equalizer presets. It assumes you to be musically sound and leaves you to set the equalizer manually.

You can although download few equalizers which have been created by some users at Hydrogenaudio forums.

Some of the links there do not work so I have put all the equalizers in one zip file and uploaded on Rapidshare.

I have not created these equalizers and the credit must go to the Hydrogenaudio users hearbar and nyarlathotep.

Creative Zen X-Fi, is a high-capacity flash-based digital media player that adds Xtreme Fidelity (X-Fi) sound technology, a built-in speaker, a few wireless functions, and a whole lot of extra buttons to the company’s original ZEN device. Cool Mp3 Player, that you must lay your hands on.

A sleek blend of glossy black and both matte and shiny silver makes the Zen X-Fi one of the best- and most sophisticated-looking players Creative has ever made.

The casing is made of plastic materials and the entire face is covered by a hard glass-like plastic that is anything but smudge-proof, build quality is excellent.

The Zen X-Fi is Creative’s first player ever to have built-in wireless features (802.11b/g with WEP, WPA-PSK, or WPA2-PSK security). The capabilities are rudimentary compared to other wireless-enabled DAPs with web browsers, but it’s nice for streaming and downloading content from the Creative media server (Creative MediaBox) or one you have at home.

The player can also use its wireless radio for instant messaging. Official documentation mentions compatibility with Yahoo Messenger and Windows Live Messenger, but at the moment it seems that only Creative’s own chat app is supported.

The player is available in three storage capacities of 2 GB, 4 GB & 8GB and has pretty unconventional styling which people would either love or loathe. The player doesn’t just play music as it can also be used to manage contacts and calendar. Unlike Apple iPod it has a built in radio where you can listen to up to 32 radio stations.

Zen also brings you a Mosaic Pack you can use to customize the look of you player according to your mood. You will obviously have to pay extra for it.

The price of 2GB player is $ 59.99 and it is only available in Black variant on their US site as of now.

Kantaris is based on VLC Media Player so it can pretty much play any file type you can imagine. The best thing about Kantaris is that it is suave for playing both videos and audio files. The inbuilt last.fm plug in will appeal to all the music lovers who already obsessed with this great website. Kantaris has almost all the features that you find in VLC Media Player while it tries to give a hard battle to iTunes in audio department.

There are visualizations and equalizer (windows media player style) and the most bizarre thing about it has to be its looks. The user interface of Kantaris is pretty unconventional and it also allows users to view apple movie trailers in the player itself. The media player is absolutely free and it can be downloaded from Kantaris site.

TuneUp media has launched an application which will work with iTunes to help you download your missing album art. Album art is definitely not important in any way but it just adds some zing in out iTunes library.

Album art has definitely gone out of reach for people who prefer “less commercial ways” to obtain music. You can definitely download the missing album art if you have purchased the music from iTunes store which I believe is not something most of us do.

TuneUp application resides as a sidebar with iTunes and gives you options to eget the song information in order and obtain the missing album art.

You can clean up up to 500 songs and download 50 album arts in a free Tune Up account.

You will have to upgrade your account to Tune Up Gold if you want to do more cleaning which costs $11.95 for an year while you can buy the lifetime subscription at $19.95.

The company also earns from the ads which it shows in the sidebar apart from subscriptions. The serious music lovers can also get information about the playing musician in the sidebar. If you happen to have a messy iTunes library then you should use this application while there is a less commercial way to bring some sanity into your iTunes library too.

You can also get the missing album art using this website. You have to save a list of songs in your iTunes library and then upload it on this website. You can do so by following this sequence File>Export> Save as text file. Your saved text file is now ready to be uploaded on the website I mentioned above. The website will crawl the web to yield the album art for you in few seconds. You can save the image with the corresponding song in your iTunes library. It is completely free while the only problem is that this method is pretty time consuming.

Carl Kruger says three pedestrians in his Brooklyn district have been killed since September upon stepping into traffic while distracted by an electronic device. In one case bystanders screamed “watch out” to no avail.

Kruger says he will introduce legislation on Wednesday to ban the use of gadgets such as Blackberry devices and video games while crossing the street.

“Government has an obligation to protect its citizenry,” Kruger said in a telephone interview from Albany, the state capital.

“This electronic gadgetry is reaching the point where it’s becoming not only endemic but it’s creating an atmosphere where we have a major public safety crisis at hand.”

Tech-consuming New Yorkers trudge to work on sidewalks and subways like an army of drones, appearing to talk to themselves on wireless devices or swaying to seemingly silent tunes.
