A new phone from Palm called the Palm Eos is likely to debut on the AT&T network, as per Engadget. Palm Eos will run webOS, the new operating system first shown on the Palm Pre earlier this year.

The Eos will have a keyboard mounted on the front, below its 2.6-inch, 320-by-400-pixel, capacitive touchscreen. According to a leaked list of specifications, this device will have 4 GB of internal storage rather than a removable memory card slot. Other features will include GPS, a 2 MPx camera, and a 1150 mAh battery, giving it up to 4 hours of talk time.

It will reportedly be the second running Palm’s webOS, a multi-tasking operating system able to wirelessly synchronize a wide variety of data with online services like Google, Facebook, and Microsoft Exchange. It will come with a highly-capable web browser, email software, and multimedia player. Additional third-party applications will also be available.

Sprint’s version of the Eos will reportedly include the mobile broadband standard EV-DO Rev A, while AT&T’s will be a quad-band GSM phone with 3G (HSDPA).

The Palm Eos will be noticeably slimmer than the Palm Pre because it won’t use its predecessor’s sliding keyboard design. Overall. it will be 4.4 inches tall, 2.2 inches wide, and 0.4 inches thick (111mm x 55mm x 10.6mm).

CES 2009 is short for the Consumer Electronic Show 2009 which was held in Las Vegas and where Palm launched the Pre smartphone and the new webOS platform that powers it.

According to the CNET, the Palm Pre along with the new Palm Web OS brings an innovative way to how you interact with your device and how it organizes information. The Deck of Cards feature truly makes multi-tasking on your smartphone a breeze and the Synergy functionality pulls in all your personal management information like e-mail, contacts, and calendar from various sources into one place. Sure, other devices and operating systems have made similar attempts but from what we’ve seen the Palm Pre is the first smartphone to truly deliver on this in a seamless way.

The palm pre offer multi-touch screen that rivals the iPhone and even one-ups Apple’s smartphone with a slide-out full QWERTY keyboard. The list of features is long and impressive including a full HTML Web browser, a full range of wireless options and multimedia capabilities.

iPhone can’t just rule the market alone in the smartphone market and realizing that there is a desperate need for companies to challenge Apple by launching equally good products. Palm is trying its own hand in this competitive and recently crowded space with its own offering called Pre which it showcased at the ongoing CES 2009. Needless to say, we can safely assume it as Palm’s iPhone killer.

Plam realized that some users would seek an alternative to the touch screen so they have kept both touch-screen as well as QWERTY keypad in the Palm Pre. Almost all the functions can be done by the touch-screen but the QWERTY keypad will obviously provide an alternative which certain cosnumers insisit upon.

The new Palm Pre has a curved shape and a 3.1inches touch display with 320-by-480 resolution. It comes with EV-DO wireless wide-area access as well as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and 8GB of storage. The back is removable to replace the battery. It weighs 4.8 ounces and at 2.35 inches wide, 3.96 inches long and 0.67 inches thick is slightly smaller than other popular smart phones. It also includes a 3-megapixel camera which is becoming a norm these days.

One of the most innovative features is the ‘Cards’ system using the centre button at the foot of the device, users can see a full set of all the open windows and either flick through them or ‘throw’ them up the screen to discard. It also features a gesture zone where users can swipe around to navigate through applications or drag up the menu loader to access a full range of applications.

The Palm pre also features multi-touch capability meaning the familiar ‘pinch to zoom’ functionality present in the iPhone has finally made its way to another device and the press demonstration hints that it works pretty well.

Treo Pro is planned to be launched in 2009. It is already being termed as “the best looking Palm ever”. Treo Pro will run on the Windows Mobile instead of Palm’s long-awaited Nova operating system.

The initial leak happened yesterday, which we blogged about there was a flash presentation on Palm’s website and now it has been taken down. According to the clear Treo Pro specifications, it has a much slim body if compared to its predecessors. Treo Pro will run on Windows Mobile 6.1 over 3G.

Another name for Treo Pro is Treo 850, the leaked handset’s design is slightly similar to one of Palm Centro. Treo Pro features a glossy black and white color scheme with various improvements like a 3.5mm headphone jack, wireless button on the side and a microUSB connector.

It has a 2.4-inch 320 by 320 pixels touchscreen display and will be powered by 400MHz with 100MB of RAM, the new device will use MicroSD cards for memory expansion. A 2-megapixel camera is also provided.
The release date of the Treo Pro has not been announced yet. The speculations are further acknowledged by reports from this week, saying that Palm placed a 5 million-unit order for 2009 with Compal Communications, an Asian mobile phone manufacturer.

These same reports also confirm the use of Windows Mobile on this lot, it is unknown when Nova, the operating system based on Linux will be released and on what device.

This is Sprint’s newest smartphone with Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional which is designed for business users who depend on their smartphones for high-speed work on the go. Palm Treo 800w operates on the Sprint and utilizes EV-DO Rev. A networks.
