Most of the features from the desktop version have been carried over to the iPhone’s smaller screen including emoticons, avatars, custom status, invisibility, and the option to send SMS to contacts. The application will also allow sending of pictures clicked using the iPhone’s camera. You can download it from the iPhone AppStore.

Yahoo has finally released its new Calendar interface after a long gap of several years. The new Yahoo Calendar comes in a new look with an improved, Ajax based drag & drop interface & features like Flickr integration, ToDo list, Email, SMS or IM reminders. It also allows you to subscribe to someone else’s calendar in case you wish to synchronize your tasks with another user.

The Flickr feature adds some nice, selected high quality images over the calendar interface(refer the screenshot). The images change randomly as background thumbnails over the days in each month.

The future version promises to deliver some new features such as uploading photos from your own flickr stream, adding events from sites like upcoming.org. You will also be able to subscribe to calendars from other Yahoo sites such as Yahoo Sports, Finance, TV etc.

Yahoo also launched yet another social news voting system, just like digg. This is called, Buzz and is now open to the public. Prior to the public release 400 publishers could contribute new links to the service, for the prelimnary seeding.

Anyone can see them and buzz up or down depending on the interest. Unfortunately there is no hype or buzz created on web for this release. Buzz has serious competition with digg and reddit. It is stated that Buzz’s algorithms not only value the voting activity but they also analyze search engine popularity.

Looking at Yahoo answer’s success I think this will make it among the top eventually.
