vh1-video-player-broadband.jpgVH1 now has plans to launch this month a syndicated video player that can be embedded in other Web sites to receive broadband shows from the entertainment network.

In addition to launching the Vspot player Nov. 27, VH1 plans to release a Web show called “Home Purchasing Club,” an eight-episode series that’s an “edgy, irreverent satire of home shopping channels,” the company said.

By distributing video players, entertainment companies build networks for advertisers, as well as a showcase for their own shows. VH1 plans to display new content regularly on the player’s playlist.

VH1 is also offering search capabilities and a feature that lets viewers share the videos they like with friends. The latter is an example of the use of word-of-mouth to generate a buzz on programming.

“Building and launching our syndicated player gives us yet another way to get our music and pop culture content and new series like ‘Home Purchasing Club’ out there to our dedicated viewers,” Tom Calderone, executive VP and general manager of VH1, said in a statement.

VH1, available on cable to nearly 88 million U.S. households, features programming on music, artists, and pop culture.

The network launched the Vspot video site last summer. Streams of VH1 programming on the site have grown an average of 38% each month this year, according to the company.
